We live in a world where we use endless virtual tools for different purposes and tasks. And it can be exhausting to get familiar with and start using a different platform. But if a different virtual meeting software makes a massive positive difference and is easy to learn, you’ll find yourself regretting not making the change earlier. But with this comes a common question among our users: “How do I convince people to start using Toucan?”.
If you are a Toucan fan and want to bring more people into our Toucan community, then this blog post is for you. We hope you enjoy our top-notch tips on how you can get your people onto Toucan.
People have been using traditional video conferencing tools like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all through the pandemic. For some folks, it took them months to learn how to use those programs. It can be challenging to convince people like that to learn something entirely different, like Toucan.
Toucan is different from what most people might be used to. It looks different, has different functionalities, and has different buttons. Event attendees might be nervous about clicking the “wrong thing,” accidentally screen sharing, or accidentally not screen sharing. Not knowing exactly how every single thing works means that there could be a margin for error.
Every day there’s new software, a new piece of technology, a new update that we need to keep up with. No wonder people settle and stay where they are comfortable. That’s why you need to make onboarding a new tool as effortless as possible.
We try to host social events with some regularity. These can have different themes and formats. But regardless of the theme, they will be able to see all that Toucan allows them to do. And really, we will be doing the heavy lifting for you by showing everyone exactly how it works!
What is better than asking people to try it themselves? (Without paying or even creating an account). How can you do that? Just send people to our interactive demo. This way they will get the feeling and vibe of the platform without needing to get a group of people together to see the full effect.
If you’re interested in running your virtual event or networking session on Toucan, first create a Space then invite a couple of people to meet you at that link, so you can play around with it together. When we say, “Invite a couple of people” we mean it. Invite a good group, so they can see Toucan at its best, with people moving from group to group, and understand the benefits. We promise it will be worth their time.
Tell people why YOU love Toucan so much. Think about who you're trying to convince first; listen to their problems and then tailor what you tell them about the platform to those specific problems. If you are trying to make someone use Toucan for a virtual networking event, for instance, they might be thrilled to hear about our Meeting spots - AKA “labeled tables” - for specific topics.
Whether you are trying to implement Toucan with your remote team and turn it into a virtual workspace or using it for your virtual book club, first start using Toucan with a group of people that you’re relatively close to and familiar with. For some people, that’s their team at work. For others, it’s their family. Inform the group that you’ll be testing out a new platform. Don’t make them feel like you’re completely changing everything up on them.
We are sure that they will love it. But if, after that trial period, they continue to prefer whatever other option they’ve been using, it could be the case that Toucan is not for them. At least for the time being.
Several members of our team are Toucan Producers. It’s their job to stay up-to-date on all the exciting ways people have used Toucan. If you have a specific event or event type that you’re interested in hosting on Toucan, we can schedule a private demo session with a Toucan Producer for you and your colleagues.
Toucan Producers help with everything from event ideation to being present in your event to make sure that small details run smoothly. No task is too big or too small.
Show everyone how cool Toucan is. But not by bashing other products. There is a lot of other software out there, and there’s a time and place for each one of them.
With that being said, try to compare Toucan to whatever virtual meeting software you are using at the moment. Compare feature by feature; if you highlight how it can help people and how it will make them feel, you’ll make everyone see the value it will add to your virtual social interactions.
We try to populate our website with as much information as possible. We have plenty of resources, from our Getting Started Page to our blog; from the demo to the knowledge base. Tell people to browse it, they will most likely find almost all the answers to their questions. And if they come up with questions they can’t find the answers to, tell them to send us an email or DM via our social media channels.
Thank you for being a Toucan fan. If you’re reading this, it’s probably because you’re looking to bring a community or group onto Toucan and might be coming up against some resistance. Don’t despair, we’re here to help make your life easier.
We would like to meet you and learn more about you. If you have a few minutes, please reach out to us, and send us an email. We can’t wait to meet you!
